Shoplifting: Dismissed
An international tourist visiting the United States was arrested and charged with shoplifting from the Macy’s Department Store in the Providence Place Mall. The young Russian woman made some purchases in Macy’s and then allegedly walked out of the store carrying a bag of unpaid merchandise. A loss prevention agent for Macy’s apprehended the woman and contacted Providence Police, which led to the woman’s arrest and charges.
She retained Rhode Island Criminal Defense Attorney, John L. Calcagni III, to defend her against this charge. The woman had no criminal history, the financial means to pay for the allegedly stolen merchandise, all of which was recovered, and had been visiting the United States and Rhode Island with a tourist visa. Based on these collective circumstances, Attorney Calcagni successfully persuaded the prosecutor to dismiss this case and its charge against his client.
