Arrested by Newport Police and Charged With Domestic Simple Assault
Criminal Charges:
Woman Arrested by Newport Police and charged in Rhode Island District Court (2nd Division) Newport County, Newport, RI for Domestic Simple Assault, Domestic Vandalism; and Domestic Disorderly Conduct.
Case Overview:
A young woman had an altercation with her mother. Newport Police responded and spoke to the mother who claimed she had confronted her daughter about her excessive drinking. The daughter became aggressive and struck the mother on the head several times. The daughter then fled the scene on foot. Police began to search for the woman. Once they found her, they arrested the woman and charged her with Domestic Simple Assault and Domestic Disorderly Conduct. The woman was arraigned and released on bail. She then violated her bail conditions which resulted in her detention.
Case Result:
Filing for 1 year. The woman retained Rhode Island Domestic Simple Assault Defense Lawyer, John L. Calcagni III, to defend her in these matters. Attorney Calcagni first successfully advocated for reinstatement of the woman’s bail. Attorney Calcagni then advocated for the support of the woman’s mother in favor of a dismissal. He then successfully persuaded the Town Solicitor for Newport to amend and reduce the charges to a non-domestic disorderly conduct in exchange for an admission and agreement that the matter be filed for one year with conditions. The matter will be eligible for expungement at its conclusion of the one-year filing.
