Simple Assault Charge Filed for One Year in Providence County

Case Overview:
Providence Police responded to a local bar for a reported assault. Upon arrival, they met with the victim and complaining witness who presented with a bleeding laceration of his eye. Further investigation revealed that this man had been attacked by another patron, who the victim approached while seated at the bar. The video showed the patron turn around quickly and strike the victim in the face. The victim fell to the ground, prompting the wine glass in his hand to break. The patron that climbed on top of the man and repeatedly struck him in the face, until others separated the man and contacted police. Police arrested and charged the attacker with Simple Assault or Battery in Rhode Island District Court. He retained Rhode Island Criminal Defense Lawyer, John L. Case Result: Filing for One Year.
Attorney Calcagni ultimately negotiated the resolution of this case with a one-year filing. The man was required to accept responsibility for the charged crime but was not punished or given a criminal sentence. Providing he is not charged with a new crime within a 12-month filing period, the case will be dismissed and eligible to be sealed in the end.
