Cyberstalking and Disorderly Conduct Charges Dismissed in Rhode Island
Criminal Charges:
Man charged in the Rhode Island District Court (6th Division) for:
- Domestic Cyberstalking and Harassment, in violation of RIGL § 11-52-4.2 (a)
- Domestic Disorderly Conduct, in violation of RIGL § 11-45-1
Case Overview:
Warren Police investigated a walk-in complaint by a young woman about the recent threatening conduct by her ex-boyfriend. The girl claimed that she recently ended a long-term, substantive dating relationship with the man. He responded with continuous and pervasive threatening messages to her via email, text messages, and other mobile messaging applications. In one of the messages, he sent a photo of himself holding a firearm, asking the girl if she wanted to die, or words to that effect. The man had a License to Carry (LTC) a handgun issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, which greatly troubled police. Investigators collected the emails and messages from the girl, as evidence in the case, and subsequently arrested the ex-boyfriend. They charged him in Rhode Island District Court (6th Division) with Domestic Cyber Stalking and Harassment and Domestic Disorderly Conduct. He hired Rhode Island Criminal Defense Lawyer, John L. Calcagni III, to defend him in this matter.
Case Result: Dismissed.
Attorney Calcagni and his team submitted an extensive mitigation packet on the man’s behalf, highlighting his young age, broken heart, uncharacteristic behavior, and lack of criminal record. Attorney Calcagni and his team thereafter negotiated the dismissal of this case and its charges upon the man’s successful completion of a short anger management course. The matter has since been both dismissed and sealed from public record.
