East Providence, Rhode Island, Providence County
Rhode Island District Court (6th Division)
Case Overview:
Rhode Island State Police and East Providence Police investigated a small group of men involved in drug trafficking activities. During a controlled buy, police arrested the suspected dealer, as he attempted to sell one pound of marijuana. Once in custody, police transported the man to his home where they executed a search warrant. The search led to the discovery and seizure of two semi-automatic handguns, one AK-47 assault rifle, numerous high-capacity magazines, approximately five pounds of marijuana, 20 oxycodone pills, 470 grams of psychedelic mushrooms, and about $10,000 in U.S. Currency. Police presented the man for his arraignment in Rhode Island District Court (6th Division), where he was ordered held without bail. This man and his family then hired Rhode Island Criminal Defense Lawyer, John L. Calcagni III, to defend him in this matter.
Case Result: Bail Granted
Attorney Calcagni prepared a bail package for the Court’s and State’s consideration, containing information about the man’s ties to the Rhode Island community and evidence that he is not a flight risk. Armed with this information, and over the State’s objection, Attorney Calcagni persuaded the Court to release the man on $100,000 surety bail with conditions that he surrender any firearms and passports and remain on home confinement.
