Criminal Charges:
Man arrested in Barrington, Rhode Island, and charged in the Providence County Rhode Island District Court (6th Division) for:
- Domestic Disorderly Conduct in violation of RIGL § 11-45-1(a)
Case Overview:
Barrington Police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance after a concerned citizen observed a boyfriend and girlfriend have a very heated argument at a local beach. Police located the parties with the vehicle registration information provided by the concerned caller. The girlfriend was observed to have several contusions on her face and appeared to be bleeding from the nose. While on scene, officers observed the two parties argue again. Due to the circumstances and the observations of the woman’s injuries, officers arrested the boyfriend and charged him with Domestic Disorderly Conduct in Rhode Island District Court (6th Division). He then hired Rhode Island Criminal Defense Lawyer, John L. Calcagni III, to defend him.
Case Result: Dismissed.
As the case progressed, the woman invoked her 5th Amendment privilege against self-incrimination and signed a statement supporting dismissal of the charges. The two were also scheduled to get married within weeks of the man’s arrest. The prosecution was reluctant to dismiss the case but agreed after the man completed several hours of anger management counseling. Ultimately, Attorney Calcagni successfully advocated for the dismissal of this case. The case was subsequently sealed, leaving the man with a clean criminal history.
