Charged with Possession in Providence Superior Court
Criminal Charges:
Man charged in North Providence, Rhode Island Superior Court for:
- Multiple Counts of Possessing a Controlled Substance, in violation of R.I.G.L. § 21-28-4.01(c)(2)(i)
Case Overview:
North Providence Police conducting surveillance observed a young man exit a residence known for narcotics activity. Police stopped the man in his vehicle as he pulled away. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of several different types of drugs, which formed the basis of four counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance in Providence Superior Court (Providence County). The man retained Rhode Island Criminal Defense Lawyer, John L. Calcagni III, and his team to defend these matters.
Case Result:
Admitted to Drug Court. Attorney Calcagni and his team aggressively advocated for the young man to be admitted into the Superior Court Diversion Program. He was initially admitted but terminated after being arrested on new criminal charges by Bristol Police. After being stopped for suspected DUI, a search of the man again yielded several types of illegal narcotics, which supported three new counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance in Providence Superior Court (Providence County). Attorney Calcagni and his team took this new matter head-on and advocated for both cases to be admitted into the Superior Court Adult Drug Court Program. While the application was pending, the young man acquired four more counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance in Newport County. After several negotiations and pretrial conferences, the young man and all 11 criminal charges were admitted into Adult Drug Program. If the man successfully completed the program, all charges will be dismissed and sealed from his record.
