Federal Charge for Delivering Fentanyl: Bail Granted
Federal law enforcement agents arrested a man as part of a large-scale drug investigation and charged him with Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute 40 Grams or More of Fentanyl and Distribution of Fentanyl in violation of 21 U.S.C. §§ 841 (a)(1), (b)(1)(B) and 846 in U.S. District Court for the District of Rhode Island. At his arraignment, the Court appointed counsel and ordered that the man be detained without bail. Several months later, the man and his family retained Federal Criminal Defense Lawyer, John L. Calcagni III, to defend him in this matter. Attorney Calcagni sorted through voluminous evidence in the case and discovered that his client had only participated in a single suspected drug transaction involving approximately 10 grams of fentanyl. This prompted Attorney Calcagni to file a motion for the man’s release on bail. After appearing before the Court three times regarding the motion, Attorney Calcagni ultimately persuaded the Court to authorize his client’s pretrial release.
