Forgery and Counterfeiting of Vehicle Registration Plates: Dismissed
Rhode Island State Police performed a motor vehicle stop of a Mercedes Benz after observing it commit multiple traffic infractions. Once stopped, troopers identified the driver. A background check for the man indicated he had a non-extraditable warrant for his arrest in another state for forgery and identity fraud. A careful examination by the trooper of the man’s vehicle registration and plates caused him to believe the documents were forged or counterfeited.
This led to the man’s arrest and criminal charge for Forgery and Counterfeiting of Vehicle Registration Plates. The man retained RI White Collar Crimes Defense Lawyer, John L. Calcagni III, to defend him in this matter. After appearing with the man for multiple pretrial conferences, Attorney Calcagni and his team persuaded the State and Court to dismiss this case in its entirety. The matter has since been sealed from public record.
