Case Overview:
Pawtucket Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident. While enroute to the accident, they passed a vehicle that matched the description of one of the two cars involved, that had reportedly fled the scene. Police stopped the vehicle (vehicle 1) and observed damage to its body. The motorist denied being involved in a recent accident and claimed the body damage was from a prior event. Police contacted the other motorist (vehicle 2) who identified the other operator. The operator of vehicle 2 claimed the other motorist in vehicle 1 came at him at a high rate of speed, causing him to pull over to avoid a collision. This is when the two collided. The complainant alleged the other operator of vehicle 1 sideswiped him and kept going. Based on this overall information, police arrested the operator of vehicle 1 with Leaving the Scene of an Accident – Property Damage Resulting and charged him in Rhode Island District Court (6th Division). He hired Rhode Island Criminal Defense Lawyer, John L. Calcagni III, to defend him in this matter.
Case Result: Dismissed.
Attorney Calcagni and his team successfully persuaded the prosecution to dismiss this case upon the man’s payment of a $500 contribution to the Victims of Crime Indemnity Fund. This case has since been dismissed and sealed from public record.
